Recycled aggregates for two theme park construction projects

Sustainable construction at Legoland and Thorpe Park

MCM are sourcing and supplying recycled aggregates to two major theme park construction programmes in 2023.

With the sub base construction at Legoland Windsor and the preparations for the new Exodus ride at Thorpe Park, the team at MCM continues to support its commitment to promoting the supply and use of circular materials in construction, landscape, civil engineering, highway and infrastructure schemes across the UK.

Legoland Adventure Golf: Recycled Type 1 and 20mm Stone
Teeing off this Summer at Legoland is a brand new adventure golf experience. Featuring four themed nine-hole indoor golf courses, it will be a world first for indoor golf. Due for completion in the next few weeks, the new Windsor resort area will be ready for its first players to step up at the end of July 2023.

Converting previous car parking areas, contractors on site have been supplied by MCM with over 1000 tonnes of recycled type 1 and over 400 tonnes of 20mm recycled stone. This sustainable sub base construction will form the foundation of the golf courses themselves as well as the facilities and entertainment space.

The supply of materials onto site continues this month (May 2023)

Project Exodus: Muckaway and Crushed Concrete

Last month (April 2023) works began at Thorpe Park for MCM as ground preparations required the removal of muck and waste from the construction site where a brand new record-breaking ride will soon take shape: Exodus.

Since the site has been cleared, the MCM team has returned with over 340 20-tonne loads of 6F5 recycled aggregate. This recycled crushed concrete material is compacted and levelled on site in preparation for the ride’s construction and surrounding access areas.

The Exodus ride will rise 72 metres above the ground – a whole 10 metres higher than the Park’s current tallest ride, Stealth. It will be the newest and tallest roller coaster in the UK.  MCM are still returning to site on a regular basis as works continue.

Promoting Sustainable Construction Material

Both of these theme park construction projects promote the use of recycled construction materials. To find out more about how using recycled aggregates for circularity and sustainability in construction, read our 5-point guide on Recycled Aggregates.
