Invasive Plants

Japanese Knotweed and Giant Hogweed

Japanese Knotweed is a highly persistent weed. It grows at an alarming rate of up to 10cm per day in any type of soil and can sprout from as little as 2mm rhizome. It is classed as Controlled Waste under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and should be identified and eradicated from your site by licensed professionals.

Spread by seed, wind dispersal and in water courses and common across the UK, Giant Hogweed must also be removed as Controlled Waste in order to comply with legislation.

For full information on all non-native invasive species, view the latest legislation here.
