As part of a huge remediation effort to clean up a major recycling site, the client needed to remove a large amount of contaminated material, which was very wet and difficult to move due to standing water. With a tight timeline for removing the material, the client needed a partner who could begin right away and meet all the required logistical and public safety criteria.

MCM visited the client site and provided all the required paperwork and consignment notes. Just three days after the original client enquiry, MCM began removing contaminated material from the site, following strict rules for entering and leaving the site to ensure the safety of the public throughout.

Benefits for the client

To keep the project on track, MCM had the required number of lorries on site at 7:30am every morning, allowing them to make two trips per day to the contracted remediation facility in East London. Problem solving for success The high moisture content of the contaminated material was a concern, but the MCM team worked with the remediation facility to ensure that the material could be taken in and treated effectively. Where possible, MCM mixed the wettest material with drier material to reduce standing water and ensure safe delivery to the remediation centre. Fast, safe project delivery Excellent logistics and planning ensured that the required volumes of material were removed within the agreed project timescale, with 74 tipper loads delivered in total. Additionally, MCM followed all the client’s public safety guidelines to the letter, ensuring that the hazardous material never posed a risk to public health.
