MCM step up for soils, stone and muckaway

SAK Construction Limited of Gravesend, Kent have completed the hard and soft landscaping at the new residential development on the Colville Estate, North London. In a prime location next to the Regent’s Canal in Hoxton, Colville has been one of Hackney’s biggest building projects.  The project has created 900 new homes.

Managing deliveries to a limited access site

Works included the removal and replacement of an existing road network as well as resurfacing and turfing work.  Integral to the success of all of these elements was the partnership and operational expertise, prompt and managed supply and consistently high standard of materials provided by MCM. No mean feat at ground level – but this has all been completed on a first floor podium!

The project lowdown

The soft landscaping included low level hedging, shrubs and trees in turfed and sculptured beds on a raised level.  MCM provided ongoing deliveries before and during landscaping including:

• BS3882 topsoil
• BS8601 subsoil
• Type 1 primary
• 2-6mm permeable stone
• Sharp sand
• Ballast
• Shingle
• Reject sand

Site clearance

With the removal of older tarmac from existing roadways and site visits to ascertain the best management of the muck away removal, the MCM team were able to ensure that 95% of the waste was recovered, thus avoiding the prospect of costly and unsustainable landfill. January 2019
